Von Ruden Re-Elected President of Wisconsin Farmers Union
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 02/02/2016

Vernon County dairy producer Darin Von Ruden was elected to his seventh term as president of the Wisconsin Farmers Union. The Westby farmer was voted in by his colleagues during the group's annual convention in Appleton last weekend.

A lifelong member of the WFU, Darin has served as the group's District 5 director since 2007. He also leads the WFU Foundation Board of Directors, serves on the National Farmers Union Board and is chairman of the NFU Membership Committee.

"We will continue to work to expand WFU as the reasoned voice for the state's family farmers and rural people," Von Ruden during his annual address. "With a dismal market outlook forecasted for Wisconsin farmers this year, it will be more important than ever that we stand strong as a voice for fair prices for family farmers. We'll also continue our work on behalf of rural schools, broadband access, fair trade, conservation and campaign finance reform, among other issues."

He added that membership in the organization continues to grow, with the roster increasing by up 10 percent this past year alone.

Also during last week's meeting, Craig Myhre of Osseo was re-elected vice president; Dennis Rosen from Emerald is the secretary; and Mark Liebaert of South Range was chosen as treasurer. Other board members include Janet Nelson, Prairie Farm; Ed Gorell, Osseo; Rick Adamski, Seymour; Chris Holman, Custer; and Tina Hinchley, Cambridge.

Meanwhile, several members were honored with Builders Awards, which is one of the highest honors the organization gives out to supporters. This year's recipients were Barb and Gerald Jaeger of Lomira, Marvin & Ruth Kruse of Reedsburg, and Kriss Marion of Blanchardville. And Friend of the Family Farmer awards were presented to Senator Dave Hansen, and Jerry Fiene & Kim Kaukl of the Wisconsin Rural Schools Alliance.
