Minnesota/Wisconsin Dairy Policy Conference Being Planned
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 02/27/2008

The Universities of Wisconsin and Minnesota, along with the Wisconsin and Minnesota Federation of Cooperatives are teaming up to hold a Dairy Leadership Conference this spring in LaCrosse. Organizers of the April 2-3 forum say many topics will be discussed, including an update on the next Farm Bill, an overview of the House and Senate Dairy Titles, followed by feedback from a reactor panel of Wisconsin and Minnesota agricultural experts.

Other sessions during the first day of the meeting will feature information about finding a better way to price milk, avoiding milk price volatility, and the challenges of dairy globalization.

On Thursday, attendees will hear from State Senator Dan Kapanke and Rep. Jennifer Schilling; Joe Martin, assistant commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture; Dennis Frame, co-director of the Wisconsin Discovery Farms program; and Katie Mnuk, coordinator of the Farmers' Health Cooperative of Wisconsin. Informational sessions will focus on livestock siting laws and biomass fuel production.

The registration fee is $250 for both days or $175 for one day. For more information or to sign-up, call 608-258-4414.
