Producers Display Their Best at Pioneer Showdown
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/11/2008

Beef, goat, hog and lamb producers will have the opportunity to display their best animals at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Block and Bridal Club Pioneer Showdown in the coming weeks. The Beef Steer and Heifer Jackpot Show will be held April 26-27 at 8 a.m. The Goat Jackpot Show will be held April 26 at 8 a.m. and the Hog and Lamb Jackpot Show will be held May 17 at 7 a.m. All shows will be held at the Grant County Fairgrounds in Lancaster.

The Beef Steer, Goat and Heifer Jackpot Shows are open to all producers. The showmanship portions are open to anyone under 21. The Hog and Lamb Jackpot Show is open to anyone under 21.

Animals are divided into classes according to weight, age and breed, and judged by industry professionals. In the showmanship competitions, the producers are judged on how they handle their animals. The producers with the best animals are given a premium awarded by Block and Bridal Club and prizes donated by area businesses and individuals. Businesses and individuals also have the option of sponsoring a class, breed or specific area of the show. Sponsors are recognized throughout the day by announcements and signs.

Block and Bridal Club has been hosting Pioneer Showdown for approximately 10 years. Approximately 200 beef cattle will be exhibited this year, according to organizers.

Entry forms for all three shows can be found at www.PioneerShowdown.com. Entry fees for the beef show are $40 per head and $45 per head after April 10. Entry fees for the Goat Jackpot Show are $10 per head and $15 per head after April 10. Entry fees for the Hog and Lamb Jackpot Show are $30 per head for one show or $40 per head for both shows. A $10 refundable pen fee applies for hogs.
