Wisconsin Residents Can Register for Pesticide Application Alerts

Wisconsin Residents Can Register for Pesticide Application Alerts

By Blake Jackson

Homeowners and renters in Wisconsin have an opportunity to stay informed about commercial pesticide applications occurring near their properties through the state’s Landscape Pesticide Registry. Managed by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), the program provides advance notifications before certain pesticide treatments take place in nearby areas.

Registration for the 2027 Landscape Pesticide Registry opens on November 1, 2026, and remains available through February 1, 2027. The service is offered free of charge and must be renewed annually by participants who wish to continue receiving notifications.

The registry is designed to help residents monitor pesticide use in their neighborhoods. Individuals can register addresses located on their block or adjacent blocks to receive advance notices from commercial lawn care companies that apply pesticides to lawns, trees, and shrubs. These notifications allow residents to be aware of upcoming treatments and make informed decisions regarding outdoor activities and property management.

The notification program becomes active on March 15, 2027. From that date forward, commercial pesticide applicators are required to notify registered participants at least 12 hours before conducting pesticide treatments on nearby properties. This advance notice requirement enhances transparency between service providers and local communities.

The registry applies specifically to commercial landscape pesticide applications. It does not cover pesticide applications made by homeowners or landlords on their own properties. In addition, the program does not include pesticide treatments conducted inside or outside buildings, including workplaces, schools, or daycare facilities. Agricultural pesticide applications are also excluded from the registry.

Pesticides covered under the notification system may include herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides commonly used for lawn and landscape maintenance. By receiving advance alerts, residents can better understand when and where these products may be applied near their homes.

The program continues to attract significant public interest. During the 2026 growing season, more than 4,500 addresses were registered to receive notifications. This participation highlights the growing demand for greater awareness of pesticide applications within residential communities.

The Landscape Pesticide Registry serves as a valuable information tool for Wisconsin residents seeking to stay informed about nearby commercial landscape treatments. Through free registration and advance notifications, the program supports communication, transparency, and public awareness regarding pesticide use in local neighborhoods.
