Wisconsin Pork Association Hosts Futurity Sale

The Wisconsin Pork Association hosted its sixth annual Futurity Sale last weekend in Arlington, where 31 pork producers consigned 83 head of crossbred and purebred barrows and gilts to the sale. The sale averaged $170 per head sold.

To determine sale order, the pigs were sifted by breed and sex. Top placing barrow and gilt awards were presented as follows:

** Grand Champion Barrow Overall (Champion Crossbred Barrow) - Darren & Laura Lynd, Triple L Farms, Janesville

** Grand Champion Gilt Overall (Champion Crossbred Gilt) - Todd Cherney, Cherney Farms, Wonewoc

** Reserve Grand Champion Barrow Overall (Champion Duroc Barrow) - Cody Kuhlmeyer, South Wayne

** Reserve Grand Champion Gilt Overall (Champion Duroc Gilt) - Jeff Monson, Richland Center

** Champion Berkshire Barrow - Theon Ward, Elkhorn

** Champion Berkshire Gilt - Brandon Gill, Platteville

** Champion Chester White Gilt - Tom Rake, Waunakee

** Champion Hampshire Barrow - Kurt & Jenny Junghen, Darien

** Champion Hampshire Gilt - Devan & Colton Brugger, Monroe

** Champion Poland China Barrow - Curt Watson, Edgerton

** Champion Yorkshire Barrow - Jayson Butts, Evansville

** Champion Yorkshire Gilt - Devan & Colton Brugger, Monroe

Both barrows and gilts purchased at the sale will be eligible to show for cash prizes at the WPA Futurity Show that will be held on June 8 in conjunction with the Wisconsin Livestock Breeders Association Spring Preview Show at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Only pigs sold through the sale are eligible for the WPA Futurity Show.

Champion barrow and gilt of the sale and show will be awarded $150 each; reserve champion barrow and gilt to receive $100; and all champion breed barrows and gilts will receive $25.
