Wisconsin Prepares to Host National Holstein Convention Tours
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/28/2008

For the first time since 1986, the Dairy State will be hosting the National Holstein Convention this year in Wisconsin Dells. The June 23-26 forum will be held at the Kalahari Resort, but organizers say breeders are also invited to participate in the convention kicks-off farm tours, which will feature some of the best herds in Wisconsin.

Participants will have three options when it comes to taking farm tours. The first includes a three-day trip around southern Wisconsin that will feature a riding tour of the state capital and University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, Kinyon Holsteins and the Martin and Trudy Kinyon family farm, the House on the Rock, and the Crave Brothers Farm and Cheese Factory.

That group will also see NASCO in Fort Atkinson, the Brian and Cindy Krull family farm, the Octagon House, Crescentmead Farms, and will conclude with a visit to the Hoard Historical Museum, National Dairy Shrine, and dinner on the Hoard's Dairyman Farm on its second day. Day three includes a visit to the Renew Energy Plant, Ten Chimneys, and have lunch at Budjon Farms.

Option 2 includes a two-day tour of northwest Wisconsin and departs from the airport in Minneapolis. Kicking off the tour will be stops at Willows-Edge Holsteins and the Henk and Bonnie Van Dyk family, Jon-De Farm and the Todd & Liz Doornink family, and Indianhead Holsteins and the Robert and Karyn Schauf family. Another day of fantastic tours will begin with Jerland Farm, Jerian Holsteins and the Jackson family, Mayerlane Holsteins and the Donald and Liz Mayer family, Scientific Holsteins and the Matt and Mandy Nunes family, and Wide-Open Holsteins and the Charlie and Katie Bue herd.

And Option 3 is a one-day tour choice that departs from the Kalahari. Visitors will have the chance to visit Mystic Valley Dairy and the Mitch Breunig family, have lunch at Budjon Farms, and stop in at Ryan-Vu Dairy and Vir-Clar Farms before heading back to the Kalahari.

The deadline to register for these tours or other convention events is May 10. For more information, call 800-223-4COW.
