Didion Milling Previously Cited for Safety Violations
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/02/2017

The site of a deadly explosion that killed two workers at a corn milling facility in Columbia County and injured over a dozen others had been reprimanded in the past for violating safety regulations. According to records obtained by the Wisconsin State Journal, the Didion Milling plant in Cambria was told by inspectors six years ago that they did not take proper precautions against dust explosions.

Media reports also stated that firefighters had responded to a separate fire at the facility two days before Wednesday's blast.

The entire structure was lost after a large explosion occurred at the plant around 11:00 p.m. on May 31. The mill was located across from the Didion ethanol plant, which was not effected by the explosion.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation, which will include a safety assessment by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

As of Thursday night, four workers were being treated in a local hospital burn center, while a fifth was in a trauma and life support center.
