State Lawmakers Urge Walker to Ask SBA for Disaster Declaration
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/12/2018
A dozen state senators and assembly representatives from southcentral Wisconsin have written to Governor Scott Walker urging him to submit a request to the Small Business Administration for a Disaster Declaration for areas affected by recent severe weather
"It is our understanding that SBA cannot make their emergency programs available until either a Presidential Declaration is made for either individual assistance or public assistance or a gubernatorial disaster declaration is made," the memo stated. "The recent
500-year events that have occurred around our state have hit our districts particularly hard. People are suffering, and are unsure of how they will come out of what has occurred."
The lawmakers say it is the duty of our state to help those who suffered financial damage from the high levels of rain that fell in late August and early September.
Those who sent the letter represent constituents from Dane, Green, Iowa, Rock and Sauk Counties.
