Calf Care Connection Workshops Slated for October

Calf-raising experts will share the latest research, techniques and ideas during three one-day Calf Care Connection workshops next month. The events will be held October 10 in Chilton, October 11 in Eau Claire, and October 12 in Fennimore. Offered by the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin, the workshop is a day-long of classroom training with hands-on learning labs designed specifically for dairy producers, professional calf feeders and heifer growers.

Each workshop will cover topics like what to do during the first 24 hours of life, how to listen to the lungs and heart rate of young calves, ensuring a bug-free environment and much more.

The training will be led by industry experts such as Dr. Theresa Ollivett, UW-Madison, focusing on respiratory ailments and new research on ultrasound technology and development of calf lungs; Dr. Noah Litherland, formerly with the University of Minnesota and now with Vita Plus, on calf nutrition and optimal growth techniques; and Dr. Fiona Maunsell, University of Florida, to discuss what's new in vaccinations and developing immune system of calves.

The workshop will start at 9:30 a.m. and conclude by 4 p.m.

Calf Care Connection training is being offered to PDPW members of $125. Non-members can register for $250.
