Midwest Horse Fair Cancels for Second Consecutive Year
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/20/2020

The continuous spike of the COVID-19 virus has led to the decision to call off plans for a 2021 Midwest Horse Fair, which had been scheduled for April 16-18 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. The event's board of directors said in a statement on Thursday that it has become too difficult to guarantee an event as the State of Wisconsin and Dane County experience the catastrophic effects of the pandemic.

"To ensure the continuity of operations and an ability to swiftly upscale and rapidly deploy much needed vaccinations, Public Health of Madison & Dane County has extended their emergency use of the Alliant Energy Center grounds through April 30, 2021," the group said. "Regretfully these actions, while necessary for public health, force the cancellation of the 2021 Midwest Horse Fair."

Officials say alternate dates and locations have been discussed at length, but there are no assurances that rescheduling within 2021 would guarantee an event.

"Furthermore, alternate facilities neither offered the guaranteed availability or accommodations, which would allow for an event of the variety, capacity and caliber we have come to expect from the great Midwest Horse Fair," the statement said.

The next Midwest Horse Fair is now on the calendar for April 22-24, 2022.
