Walker Set to Lead Trade Mission to South Korea, Japan
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/08/2017

Gov. Scott Walker will lead company executives on an eight-day trade mission to Japan and South Korea, starting this weekend. The goal of the trip is to encourage foreign companies to keep investing in Wisconsin and to help state companies strengthen their business relationships.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation is helping to coordinate the mission, which will include stops in Tokyo and Seoul. The governor will also meet with Japanese and South Korean government officials and industry leaders.

"The historic $10 billion investment Foxconn is making in Wisconsin is a clear sign that businesses around the world are recognizing the many benefits of establishing operations in our state, including our strong business climate and outstanding workforce," Governor Walker said. "We're going to build upon the momentum created by Wisconn Valley and continue to make a strong case for why companies in these two countries should consider expanding in Wisconsin."

A total of 22 people will make up the delegation, where dignitaries and business leaders will engage in personalized, one-on-one meetings with potential business partners.

WEDC officials say the trip is timed to coincide with the Midwest U.S.-Japan Conference in Tokyo, an annual meeting with business and government representatives from 10 Midwest states and Japan.

Other international trips being planned during the coming year includes destinations like Israel, Mexico, Canada, China and Germany.
