Foremost Farms Sells Minnesota Plant to Diversified Ingredients
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/21/2020

The Baraboo-based Foremost Farms USA announced plans to sell its Preston, Minnesota, dairy manufacturing facility to Diversified Ingredients. CEO Greg Schlafer says the cooperative primarily focuses its whey products in the infant formula markets and the Preston operation is not set up to meet the demanding requirements of this customer base.

"Preston is best suited to serve smaller market segments, such as organic, as well as to manufacture specialized products that require smaller volumes," Schlafer said. "Foremost Farms is not well positioned to serve these markets."

The sale is expected to be finalized on November 18. At that time, Diversified Ingredients plans to re-name the plant as Preston Protein Products, which will be jointly operated between Diversified Ingredients and Johnson Farms, Inc. of Lime Springs, Iowa.

Built in 1924, the Preston plant offers milk separation, condensing and drying services for organic dairy fluid and ingredient marketers. The facility's 20 workers are expected to be offered new positions with the company.
