Class III Milk Price Announced at $12.82; up 71-cents

The USDA announced on Friday that the October Class III milk price is $12.82 per hundredweight, up $71-cents from September, but $4.24 below year-ago levels. The 2009 average is now at $10.72, down from $17.84 in October 2008. The Class IV price is also up 71 cents from last month at $11.86, but $1.76 below last year.

Meanwhile, dairy product prices were higher on Friday's National Ag Statistics Service's Weekly Cheddar Cheese Survey. The price of 40 pound blocks for Minnesota-Wisconsin averaged $1.50, up a penny from last week's price, while 500 pound barrels were three cents higher at $1.53. The price of U.S. 40-pound blocks were up three cents at $1.45 for the week ending October 24. The barrels were at $1.46, which is also three cents higher from last week.

Butter prices were up nearly three cents as the price for 25 kilogram and 68 pound boxes meeting USDA Grade AA standards averaged $1.25 per pound for the week.

Nonfat Dry Milk prices fell by over a penny for the week at $1.03 per pound for USDA Extra Grade standards.

And for 'other states,' blocks were up three cents at $1.44, and the barrels were at $1.53, which is about four cents more than the previous week.
