Farmers, agronomists, conservation professionals, and crop advisors are invited to a free cover crop and equipment demonstration field day hosted by UW-Madison Extension.
The event will be held on May 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Marshfield Agricultural Research Station, located at 208356 Drake Ave N, Stratford, WI.
This hands-on field day offers attendees the opportunity to observe the termination of cereal rye using a roller crimper and learn about planting techniques for row crops into rolled cover crop systems.
Experts will also discuss how cover crops influence nutrient management and showcase data collected through the Wisconsin Cover Crop Data Network.
The agenda begins with an overview of the network’s five-year findings and includes observations from northern research sites.
Presenters include Mrill Ingram from the Michael Fields Agricultural Institute and Chris Bandura and Dan Marzu from UW-Madison Extension.
Additional presentations will cover termination strategies by Dan Smith, Extension Program Manager, and nitrogen management in rye systems by Ashley Waggoner of the USDA Dairy Forage Research Center.
Dr. Brian Luck will lead a live demonstration on crimping cover crops and no-till planter setup. The event is an excellent opportunity to learn practical techniques and insights from cover crop research across Wisconsin.
