On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, the Department of Community and Environmental Sociology invites you to a special event featuring Reverend Wendell Paris, Mr. George Paris, and Mrs. Alice Paris, three influential figures in the Civil and Voting Rights movements.
The event will take place from 5:00 p.m. CST at the DeLuca Forum Room 1255, located in the Discovery Building (330 N. Orchard St.). A reception will follow in the Discovery Open Court.
This lecture will feature Professor Monica White in conversation with the Paris family, who were not only key leaders in the Black Farmers’ Cooperative Movement but also passionate advocates for civil rights and political liberation.
Their stories are deeply connected to the history of farming and its intersection with political activism, offering valuable insights into the struggles and victories of the Black farming community.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from these trailblazers, who have dedicated their lives to fighting for both the rights of farmers and broader social justice.
This event provides a powerful reminder of the ongoing work needed for equality and justice in agriculture and beyond.
