UW-River Falls Students Earn Top Placings at Soils Conference

A team of students from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls came home with a lot of hardware after competing in the annual Students of Agronomy, Soils and Environmental Sciences conference in San Antonio, Texas. The competition featured hundreds of participants from 60 different universities.

In the Soils and Environmental Science section of the Poster Contest, the school Falls secured all three top awards. Placing first was Paul Tietz of Waunakee, with Aricka Roberson from Mazeppa, Minnesota taking second. Third place went to Laura Fingeisen of Red Wing, Minnesota.

In the Oral Contest, Molly McIlquham of Chippewa Falls placed second with her presentation on evaluating management practices on winter kill. For the Visual Presentation, Mitchell Hockbein of Hudson earned second place on his leaf morphology presentation.

Meanwhile, Leanna Schneider of Foley, Minnesota, was elected corresponding secretary and will assist with the organization's social media and publications.

The SASES student conference is held each year in conjunction with the annual joint meeting of the American Society of Agronomy, the Crop Science Society of America and the Soil Science Society of America.
