State Files Charges Against St. Croix County Fuel Business
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/03/2009

The State of Wisconsin has filed felony and misdemeanor charges against a Glenwood City business owner who was selling fuel products to farmers and home owners. According to the state's justice department, John Rassbach of Rassbach Oil Co. is accused of defrauding customers by intentionally shorting the portions of fuel he was supposed to be providing, then charging the customer for a larger amount. He would also issue duplicate and triplicate fuel delivery tickets by presenting the same ticket to multiple customers for a single fuel delivery.

Rassbach is charged with five felony counts of theft, six counts of misdemeanor theft and three counts of attempted misdemeanor theft. His scheme was found out after agents of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection's Division of Weights and Measures investigated his business in conjunction with the St. Croix County Sheriff's Department.

Rassbach faces maximum penalties of: three years and six months in jail and a $10,000 fine or both on four felony counts and six years in prison and a $10,000 fine, or both on one felony count, and nine months in jail and a $10,000 fine or both on six counts of misdemeanor theft, and four and one-half months in jail and a $5,000 fine or both on three counts of attempted misdemeanor theft.
