Beitlich Unexpectedly Returns for Another Term as WFU President
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 02/04/2008

Last fall, Wisconsin Farmers Union President Sue Beitlich announced that she will not seek re-election for another term as the group's leader. But after considering the wishes of many of her fellow members, the Vernon County dairy and tobacco farmer decided to go for one more year. During the group's annual meeting in Eau Claire over the weekend, Beitlich was elected to a sixth consecutive term.

Back in October, Beitlich said she was going to take her name out of the running on the same day that the WFU announced that its board agreed to relax an eligibility requirement stating that members of the board and the president receive most of their income from agriculture. She noted that 'farmers are increasingly stressed for time and money, and it is difficult to find full time farmers who can devote a large time commitment to running the organization.'

Prior to being elected as the group's first female president in 2003, Beitlich served on the WFU state board for six years, and was also a board member on the National Cattlemen's Beef Board.

Meanwhile, Patty Edelburg was elected vice president, Dennis Rosen is serving as secretary and Craig Myhre is treasurer. Other members serving on the WFU board are Janet Nelson, Wayne Danielson, Darren Von Ruden and Wally Lueder.

The conference was held at the Ramada Inn and Convention Center in Eau Claire.
