WFBF Pleased with Rohde Appointment to State DNR Board
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/12/2008

The state's largest farm organization is pleased with this week's announcement that former State Agriculture Secretary Gary Rohde will be appointed to the Natural Resources Board. Paul Zimmerman of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau said Rohde is an excellent appointment, and said he was especially pleased that the panel will have some type of farm-sector representation again.

"Gary's extensive experience working in the agriculture industry gives him an appreciation and understanding of the ag community and the needs of farmers," Zimmerman says. "This is critical as the DNR Board sets the policies of the Department of Natural Resources, policies that impact farmers and agriculture."

The seven-member DNR board hasn't had any representation from the farm population since last August when former Wisconsin Farm Bureau President Dan Poulson was failed to be re-appointed by Governor Doyle. The issue later sparked a bill in the Legislature that would require the governor to keep a designated seat available for someone involved in agriculture.

Rohde's appointment is a six-year-term on the board.
