Apply for Wisconsin pork association scholarships

The Wisconsin Pork Association (WPA) is offering several scholarships to high school seniors and college students who are interested in pursuing a career in the pork industry.

Fredrich Memorial Scholarship

  • Deadline: December 1, 2023
  • Amount: Two $1,000 scholarships and one $750 scholarship
  • Eligibility: High school seniors and college freshmen
  • Description: This scholarship is supported by the family of Clarence Fredrich through funding from the Southeast Wisconsin Pork Producers.

Whitmore Memorial Scholarship

  • Deadline: December 1, 2023
  • Amount: $1,500 scholarship
  • Eligibility: Registered juniors or seniors at UW-Madison, UW-River Falls, or UW-Platteville
  • Description: This scholarship was established in honor of the late Rex Whitmore who was a master statesman and communicator throughout the swine industry.

Gunderson Memorial Scholarship

  • Deadline: December 1, 2023
  • Amount: Up to $1,000
  • Eligibility: All college students
  • Description: This scholarship was established by the WPA and the family of Buell Gunderson to recognize the many contributions that Buell and his wife, Bernice, made to the Wisconsin pork industry.

Neil Dierks Scholarship

  • Deadline: December 31, 2023
  • Amount: $5,000 scholarship
  • Eligibility: All college students
  • Description: This scholarship is sponsored by the National Pork Industry Foundation and is managed and administered by the National Pork Producers Council. It is awarded to a student who intends to pursue a career in the pork industry with hopes that they may emerge as a future pork industry leader.

Lois Britt Memorial Scholarships

  • Deadline: January 2, 2024
  • Amount: Ten $2,500 scholarships
  • Eligibility: All college students
  • Description: These scholarships are sponsored by the CME Group and National Pork Industry Foundation. They are awarded to students who intend to pursue a career in the pork industry with hopes that they may emerge as future pork industry leaders themselves.

Southwest Wisconsin Pork Producers Scholarship

  • Deadline: April 1, 2024
  • Amount: $1,000 scholarship
  • Eligibility: High school or college students from Iowa, Grant, or Lafayette County Wisconsin
  • Description: This scholarship is awarded to a student who has a vested interest in agriculture, preferably the swine industry.
