CentralStar Awards Scholarships to Future Ag Leaders

CentralStar Awards Scholarships to Future Ag Leaders

By Blake Jackson

CentralStar Cooperative is continuing its commitment to agriculture’s future by awarding seven $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing degrees related to agriculture at colleges nationwide.

The scholarships encourage students dedicated to agriculture through work, community involvement, academics, service, and other valuable activities.

Applicants were required to be children of CentralStar member-stockowners and show participation in the agricultural industry.

Each applicant also answered five essay questions covering industry involvement, community service, employment experience, personal accomplishments, and long-term career goals.

“The CentralStar Board of Directors Scholarship Committee is proud to recognize students who are passionate about agriculture and committed to its future,” said Communication Specialist Dori Lichty.

“By investing in these students, our member-stockowner board of directors is helping support the long-term strength and sustainability of the dairy and beef industries.”

The scholarship recipients represent several agricultural disciplines and institutions. Melissa Johnson of Daggett, Michigan, will study agriculture business and accounting at Dordt University.

Mara Endres of Waunakee, Wisconsin, plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities for animal science and agricultural- and environmental science communication.

Zoe Van Rijn of Deford, Michigan, is studying animal science and agricultural communication at Oklahoma State University. Drew Butzler of Rockland, Wisconsin, will pursue dairy- and food-animal management at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Grace Clark of Rosendale, Wisconsin, is completing her agribusiness marketing and communication education at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Bryce Ritter of Byron, Michigan, is enrolled in Michigan State University’s dairy-management program, while Luke de Jong of Hickory Corners, Michigan, will begin studying agribusiness at Dordt University.

Through these scholarships, CentralStar is helping students advance their education while preparing for careers that can benefit agriculture, dairy and beef production, and rural communities. The cooperative views this investment as a way to strengthen the industry’s next generation.
