Dairy Signal Highlights Farm Footprint and Pest Prevention

By Blake Jackson

This week’s episodes of The Dairy Signal, produced by Professional Dairy Producers (PDP), will offer dairy farmers and industry professionals timely insight into current issues and opportunities affecting the sector.

The two upcoming sessions will feature an interactive discussion with dairy producers involved in the Your Farm - Your Footprint initiative on Tuesday, followed by an important update on New World screwworm flies on Thursday.

Tuesday, November 18

Attendees will hear directly from producers who have taken part in the Your Farm - Your Footprint program, which helps farms use confidential data analysis to guide operational decisions and identify areas for improvement. Participants will share what they learned through the process and how the initiative has influenced management on their operations. Featured presenters include:

  • David Trimner, General Manager and Co-Owner of Miltrim Farms Inc.
  • Paul Lippert, Owner of Grass Ridge Farm, LLC

Thursday, November 20

The week’s second episode will focus on the risks associated with New World screwworm flies. The discussion will highlight what producers experienced when the pest was previously found in the United States, how the USDA works to keep it from returning, and key warning signs to watch for. The session will be led by:

  • Dr. Keith Poulsen, PhD, Director of the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (WVDL), University of Wisconsin
