Dairy Signal Offers Insights on Crops and Heifer Health

Professional Dairy Producers (PDP) will spotlight two timely topics during this week’s episodes of The Dairy Signal, offering dairy farmers and agricultural professionals practical information to support crop management and herd productivity.

The Tuesday, August 25, episode will focus on preparing fields for the 2027 growing season. The discussion will examine important decisions following the 2026 corn silage harvest, including fall fertility planning, cover crop choices and other management practices that can help improve field performance.

Matthew Oehmichen, part owner of Short Lane Ag Supply, will share practical recommendations and answer questions during the live session.

On Thursday, August 27, Dr. Paul Fricke, PhD, a dairy reproduction specialist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will discuss ways to improve reproductive performance in dairy heifer programs.

The session will highlight current research and management strategies designed to support more effective reproductive programs and long-term herd productivity.

Both episodes are accredited through Dairy AdvanCE, allowing dairy producers, students and industry professionals to earn continuing education units (CEUs) by participating in live or recorded sessions.

The Dairy Signal airs Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. Central Time. Live viewers can participate in Q&A sessions with presenters, while recordings are available soon after each broadcast. Previous episodes can be accessed through the PDP website.
