Is your farm prepared for the future? Are you ready to begin or revisit succession planning in 2026? UnCommon Farms, in partnership with the UW-Madison Division of Extension, is hosting a full-day Specialty Grower Succession Workshop on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the Cranberry Innovation Center in Black River Falls, Wisconsin.
This interactive workshop is designed to guide farm families in building a clear, confident path for passing their farm to the next generation. Participants will learn practical strategies to simplify succession planning, making it organized and actionable while tailoring approaches to their unique operations.
Key topics include:
- Traits of successful farm transitions
- Effective communication with the right people at the right time
- Business continuity and governance
- Management and leadership transfer
- Estate planning and wealth preservation
- Creating a personal succession roadmap
The workshop will be led by Mike Downey, Succession Planning Manager at UnCommon Farms, alongside Joy Kirkpatrick, Farm Succession Outreach Specialist, and Kelly Wilfert, Farm Law Outreach Specialist, from UW-Madison Division of Extension.
