Local farmers are invited to participate in an informative field day event hosted by Dane Demo Farms on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Ripp Vale Farm, located at 9765 County Rd KP, Black Earth, WI.
This event will focus on cover crop management, with a special emphasis on drone seeding demonstrations. The event is designed to help farmers optimize their cover crop strategies for improved soil health and overall farm productivity.
Host farmer Tom Ripp, along with expert speakers from UW-Extension, will lead discussions on the benefits of cover crops, including their ability to cycle nutrients, reduce soil erosion, suppress weeds, and enhance soil health.
Attendees will have the opportunity to see drone seeding in action, a cutting-edge technology that offers a more efficient method of planting cover crops.
In addition to the demonstrations, the event will feature the popular "Soiled Undies Display," a visual exhibit that humorously illustrates the impact of soil health on organic matter decomposition.
Key speakers include Dr. Francisco Arriaga, a UW Soil Science Extension Specialist, and Chelsea Zegler, a UW Extension Ag & Water Quality Educator.
For more information, contact Kim Meyer at (608) 445-1474 or meyer.kim@countyofdane.com. This event promises to make cover crop management both educational and enjoyable.
