Wisconsin Farmers Invited to Grazing Field Day 2025

Wisconsin Farmers Invited to Grazing Field Day 2025

By Blake Jackson

Alden Hills Organic Farms in Walworth, Wisconsin, will welcome farmers, graziers, and community members to a multi-species grazing field day on September 24, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The event will feature a farm-to-table lunch, expert presentations, and a guided pasture walk highlighting sustainable farming practices and organic certification. The farm is located at N237 Alden Rd, Walworth, WI.

The day begins with registration and lunch, followed by a series of presentations on topics including managed grazing, organic certification, and multi-species enterprises.

Speakers will include Ethan Heelein, Livestock Manager at Alden Hills Organic Farms, and Jason Cavadini, Grazing Outreach Specialist with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension.

Heelein, who started with Alden Hills in 2021, now oversees livestock operations on more than 300 acres of certified organic pasture.

Heelein brings experience in agricultural education and a strong passion for organic production. His projects at Alden Hills have included improvements to integrated pest management and multi-species grazing systems.

Cavadini, a Certified Professional Agronomist, specializes in perennial forages and livestock-integrated cropping systems. Along with his Extension work, Cavadini advises GrassWorks Inc. and operates a cow-calf to finish grazing operation with his family near Stratford, Wisconsin.

The afternoon will focus on a pasture walk, where attendees can see Alden Hills’ diverse enterprises in action. The farm raises organic cattle, pigs, turkeys, and broilers, rotationally grazing across enterprises to maintain soil health and animal well-being. Their approach reflects a scalable model for sustainable livestock production while supplying high-quality meat directly to consumers.

The agenda includes:

  • 11:00-11:15: Registration and Lunch
  • 11:15-11:45: Welcome and Introductions
  • 11:40-12:20: Grazing Season Wrap-Up and Pasture Assessment
  • 12:20-12:40: Alden Hills Strategies in Action
  • 12:40-1:00: Organic Certification & Compliance
  • 1:00-1:15: Break and Networking
  • 1:15-3:00: Pasture Walk

The event is free and open to the public. More details and registration are available at Marbleseed’s website.
