Legislative Panel to Consider 'Sanctuary Cities' Bill
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/10/2017
The State Senate Committee on Labor and Regulatory Reform will hear details this week on a bill that would crack down on so-called sanctuary cities in Wisconsin that offers protections for immigrants who live in the country illegally.
Sen. Steve Nass of Whitewater is sponsoring the mesure. He said the legislation prohibits local municipalities from enacting any resolutions or ordinances that fail to enforce federal immigration laws.
The Whitewater Republican says he knows the concept will face an up hill battle, as various immigrant rights groups fought a similar proposal sponsored by Nash last year.
If approved by the committee, the bill would be considered by the full legislature before heading to Gov. Scott Walker for his signature.
