WI Entries Place as Finalists at Championship Cheese Contest
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/09/2018

Five cheese entries from the Dairy State placed in the top 20 at this week's World Championship Cheese Contest in Madison. Although the top entry came from France, Wisconsin cheesemakers held their own as the biennial competition wrapped up at the Monona Terrace on Thursday evening.

A hard sheep's milk cheese made at Mauleon Fromagerie in France was named best in show after more than 3,400 cheeses were evaluated by a group of 53 judges.

The top placings from Wisconsin included an English Hollow Cheddar, Maple Leaf Cheesemakers, Monroe; Mild Gouda, Saxon Cheese, Cleveland; Sartori Reserve Espresso BellaVitano, Sartori Company, Antigo; Cave Aged Chandoka, LaClare Family Creamery, Malone; and Sartori Limited Edition Pastorale Blend, Sartori Company, Antigo.

Wisconsin entries also topped 47 of the categories during the week's events.

The World Championship Cheese Contest has been held every other year since 1957. It has become the largest technical cheese, butter and yogurt competition in the world.
