Three Candidates Named for Wisconsin Potato Board Election 2026

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection has confirmed three candidates for the upcoming election to the Wisconsin Potato Industry Board after the nomination period closed on March 27, 2026.

Wisconsin potato growers will have until June 15, 2026, to cast their votes for representatives in their districts.

  • Charlie Mattek of Deerbrook is the nominee for District 1, representing growers across northern Wisconsin counties, including Barron, Door, Eau Claire, Marinette, Polk, and Vilas counties.
  • Nicola Carey of Bancroft is the candidate for District 2, which includes Marathon, Portage, Shawano, Waupaca, and Waushara counties.
  • Heidi Randall of Cambria is running for District 3, covering a large portion of southern and central Wisconsin, including Dane, Columbia, Jefferson, Rock, Sauk, and Winnebago counties.

The producers elected during the 2026 voting process will begin serving three-year terms starting July 1, 2026.

According to DATCP, ballots were mailed to eligible potato growers during the week of May 11. Growers who did not receive a ballot by May 21 can request one through the DATCP Market Orders staff at DATCPMarketOrders@wisconsin.gov.

Eligible growers may vote for the candidate listed in their district or choose to write in another qualified potato producer. Completed ballots must be emailed or postmarked by June 15, 2026, to be counted.
