Only Two Contested Seats in WMMB Election
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/18/2017

The make up of the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board will not look much different once this year's district director elections are complete. This year, eight of the nine incumbents in eligible districts have been re-nominated for their positions, with only two districts having a two-way contest; and another district likely voting in a newcomer.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture says District 13 Incumbent Lanette Harsdorf of Beldenville will face Robert Sendelbach from Cochrane for her seat, while Incumbent David Schmitz, Fond du Lac, is being challenged by Janet Clark, Rosendale, in District 16. The only other change will occur in District 10 after Julie Veldhuis of Kewaunee was the only producer nominated to replace retiring director John Pagel, also from Kewaunee.

The remaining incumbents not facing challengers this year include Ben Peterson, Grantsburg (District 1); Audrey Kusilek, Rice Lake (District 4); Dave Bangart, Greenwood (District 7); Becky Levzow, Rio (District 19); Ann Kieler, Platteville (District 22); and Stacy Eberle, Monroe (District 25).

Each year one-third of the board's 25 seats are selected. As directors, the board members supervise WMMB's business affairs, formulate and set policies, and serve on one various committees.

Election coordinators say all eligible voters mush return their ballots to DATCP by May 25. Dairy producers who do not receive a ballot by May 10 should call 608-224-5116.

Elected producers will serve three-year terms beginning July 1.
