Rep. Kind Pleased to See FSA Programs Restored by Ag Panel

Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind announced that the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee fully funded the Farm Service Agency loan programs in the FY 2018 federal budget. The La Crosse Democrat was among a group of lawmakers who pushed the committee to reconsider its priorities after they, along with President Trump, proposed cutting the spending item substantially.
"Everyone in rural America knows that these last few years have been rough on our farmers," Kind said. "As the backbone of the rural economy, it is essential that we are supporting programs, like the FSA loan programs, that partner with our farmers to grow
their businesses and create job. We shouldn't be balancing the budget on the backs of hardworking Wisconsin farmers."
The committee's original draft bill cut hundreds of millions of dollars from the Direct Operating Loan program, Guaranteed Operating Loan program, and Guaranteed Farm Ownership Loan Program.
Fifteen bipartisan lawmakers from rural states sent a letter to the committee asking them to restore FSA loan programs.
