Farm Technology Days Kicks-Off in Jefferson County
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/23/2019

Jefferson County is the place to be this week as thousands of agricultural producers, industry professionals and local consumers head to the 66th Wisconsin Farm Technology Days near Johnson Creek. Walter Grain Farms, a 6,000 acre cash crop operation and tilling business, is hosting this year's outdoor exposition. They are one of only two farms in the history of the show to hold the event more than once, as they opened up their farm to Farm Progress Days back in 1984.

The festivities kick-off at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday with opening ceremonies in the Family Living Tent. Visitors to the show this week can take part in field demonstrations, educational workshops and have a chance to talk to exhibitors ranging from equipment manufacturers to seed companies. FFA students will be in town competing in the state's annual tractor safety contest and land judging competition.

Organizers have put together the first-ever Ag Career Day for youth, as well as heritage plowing demonstrations featuring the same equipment commonly used on Wisconsin farms in 1984. And the popular 'Innovation Square' will be back again this year, featuring farmer-inventions and other exhibitors showcasing their products.

Presenters in the Family Living Tent on Tuesday include Jones Dairy Farm Chef Shaun Edwards, acoustic performer Zac Matthews and Mad Dog & Merrill, who are back again this year to entertain guests with their humorous grilling skills.

Field demonstrations begin at 10:00 a.m. with wheat combining, baling, drainage tiling, rock picking and hay mowing and chopping.

Meanwhile, the entire grounds have been wired for Internet access. And Tent City will again be run with generators powered by biodiesel fuel.

Weather reports say attendees can expect sunny conditions with high temperatures in the upper 70s.

The show runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, with extended hours going to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Daily admission costs $8.00 for ages 12 years of age and older. Children are free.

This is the third time Jefferson County is hosting Farm Technology Days.
