Willie Nelson Expected to Perform at Farm Aid, Despite Health
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 08/09/2019

Legendary country singer Willie Nelson says he expects to appear at next month's Farm Aid concert in East Troy, despite announcing on Thursday that he will cancel the remainder of his current summer tour due to health problems. The 86-year-old superstar said he's experiencing respiratory issues and will not perform at the 30 remaining shows on his schedule.

"I'm sorry to cancel my tour, but I have a breathing problem that I need to have my doctor check out," Nelson said on social media. "[But] I'll be back!"

Nelson, who helped found the Farm Aid benefit concerts, will perform at this year's festival on September 21 at Alpine Valley Music Theatre, alongside Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews and Bonnie Raitt.

Nelson, Mellencamp and Young organized the first Farm Aid concert in 1985 to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land. During its run, Farm Aid has raised millions of dollars to promote a strong and resilient family farm system of agriculture.

The concert was last held in Wisconsin nine years ago at Miller Park.
