$100K gift strengthens dairy scholarship program

$100K gift strengthens dairy scholarship program

By Blake Jackson

Dairy Shrine recently received a generous $100,000 donation from Dr. Robert and Rebecca Ruehlow of Maysville, Missouri, to support college scholarships for students pursuing careers in the dairy industry. This gift honors Robert's parents, the late August and Doris Ruehlow, who were respected dairy farmers and community leaders in Green County, Wisconsin. They were actively involved in organizations like the Rural Telephone Cooperative, Green County Farm Bureau, and several local cheese factories.

“My parents placed high value on hard work and education. We selected Dairy Shrine to honor them for the lessons they taught me and others on how to be successful in life,” said Robert Ruehlow, a former Dairy Specialist with University of Missouri-Extension. “Dairy Shrine has a wonderful system in place to gather applications and determine the most deserving students to receive scholarships.”

In 2024, Dairy Shrine awarded scholarships totaling $45,000 to 38 students from universities and technical schools. Over its 75-year history, the organization has granted more than 1,000 scholarships, amounting to over $1 million, helping to shape the future of the dairy industry.

“We are so grateful for the generous commitment from Robert and Rebecca Ruehlow to honor the legacy of August and Doris Ruehlow, while helping today’s dairy industry youth pursue their career dreams,” said Mike Opperman, Dairy Shrine executive director. For more information, visit Dairyshrine.org.
