Bernier, Rozar Introduce Bill to Honor Colby Cheese

State Senator Kathy Bernier of Lake Hallie and Rep. Donna Rozar from Marshfield have introduced a bill to name Colby cheese as Wisconsin's official State Cheese.

The two GOP lawmakers, who's district includes the Clark County community of Colby, say their measure celebrates the history and innovation of local cheese manufacturing.

"We are thrilled to introduce this bill to honor Colby cheese as Wisconsin's State Cheese," said said in a joint release. "Colby began as a farm family recipe dreamed up by a young man on the floor of his father's small wooden cheese factory. Today, it has gone on to become world-famous and one of America's most popular cheeses.

If approved, the product would be included in a list of state symbols that are published every two years in the Wisconsin Blue Book.
