CentralStar to Purchase Gallenberger Dairy Records

CentralStar Cooperative and Gallenberger Dairy Records, an independent, certified milk-testing association and lab in Kewaunee, have entered into a purchase agreement.

Effective June 1, all milk-testing services previously performed at the GDR laboratory will move to CentralStar's lab in Kaukauna. Built in 2017, the facility uses state-of-the-art techniques including infrared spectroscopy, flow cytometry, enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA), polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and more to process more than 2.3 million samples, annually.

Samples can be analyzed for more than a dozen components and characteristics including butterfat, protein, somatic cell count, solids-non-fat, milk urea nitrogen, Johne's, bovine viral diarrhea, neospora, mastitis, pregnancy, and others. In preparation for processing more samples and working with more dairy farms, the CentralStar lab added equipment, as well as staff to meet producer expectations.

"As a cooperative, the board of directors is committed to ongoing investments in services that benefit our owners," said CentralStar Board President Paul Trierweiler. "As dairy producers, our board understands the importance of Dairy Herd Information and convenient diagnostic testing on our own farms and wanted to ensure availability to more Wisconsin producers."

CentralStar began providing DHI Services in 2000 with the mergers of Michigan DHIA and Fox Valley DHI. Since that time, the cooperative has become the fastest-growing national DHI organization and provides the best turnaround time of sample results for like-sized laboratories. CentralStar DHI records are processed through Dairy Records Management Systems, which processes more herds and cows across the U.S. than any other dairy-records processing center.
