DATCP Issues Final Crop Report of 2022

With 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork, many farmers spent their Thanksgiving week harvesting corn and tilling fields for next year. According to the Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service's weekly crop progress summary, above normal temperatures helped melt much of the state's snow leaving some fields muddy and difficult to access.

Topsoil moisture condition levels were rated two percent very short, 17 percent short, 76 percent adequate and five percent surplus.

As of Sunday, all but 13 percent of the corn for grain has been harvested. That's 12 days behind last year. Crop scouts say the moisture content is running around 18 percent.

The winter wheat condition was rated 83 percent good to excellent statewide.

And fall tillage was 83 percent complete, nearly a week behind last year.

The agency will issue a final year-end report in two weeks.
