The final Free School session of the year will bring farmworkers together for a lively and creative Farmworker Skill Share and Show-and-Tell on December 16, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. This free virtual gathering invites participants to celebrate the knowledge, experience, and creativity of farmworkers from across the country. Organizers received an enthusiastic response to their recent call for presenters, resulting in an exciting lineup of skills and demonstrations.
The event will feature a wide range of topics designed to highlight practical techniques, cultural traditions, and joyful approaches to farm work. Presentations will include corn braiding in three styles, heirloom garlic production complete with tips on “garlic math” and child-centered agroecological teaching methods.
Participants can also look forward to learning about pine preservation techniques such as making pine soda and syrup, hands-on seed saving, and fun approaches to labor through vermicomposting relay races and farm tasks turned into playful games. Presenters will also explore the use of gathas, or short verses, to bring intention and rhythm to daily farm tasks.
This unique Free School session is co-hosted by Not Our Farm, UW-Extension, and the FairShare CSA Coalition. The event will take place on Zoom at 4 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. ET, with live Spanish interpretation provided by Cooperativa Brujúlas and closed captioning available.
Free School programs are reserved for farmworkers, defined as individuals working on farms they do not own, including interns, apprentices, cooperative members, and aspiring farmworkers.
