Federal milk pricing changes - key workshop insights

Federal milk pricing changes - key workshop insights

By Blake Jackson

Dairy industry leaders from across the country are uniting to discuss proposed changes to federal milk pricing regulations.

These amendments, the most significant in over two decades, will impact producers, processors, and the entire dairy landscape.

The National Federal Milk Marketing Orders Workshop, hosted by Professional Dairy Producers (PDP), aims to educate stakeholders on the proposed changes to all eleven Federal Milk Marketing Orders (FMMOs).

Scheduled for September 18th, the event will feature presentations by nine experts and cater to a nationwide audience.

“It is essential that dairy producers across the country and all 11 Federal Milk Marketing Orders understand the proposed changes and how it could impact their operation, their order and the entire industry,” said Slinger, Wis., dairy producer and PDP executive director Shelly Mayer. “PDP is proud to work with leading experts and organizations around the country to bring this opportunity to producers so they can make an educated decision and share their opinions with their cooperatives and prepare to vote on the proposal.”

The workshop offers three formats: in-person attendance, livestream, and recording access. All options come with a $59 registration fee.

The in-person session will be held at the Sheraton Madison Hotel in Wisconsin and includes lunch and interaction with presenters.

The speaker lineup boasts a diverse range of experience in FMMOs. Experts like Mike Brown, chief economist for the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), and Dr. Chris Wolf, E.V. Baker Professor of Agricultural Economics at Cornell University, will share their insights.

Discussions will delve into various aspects of the proposed changes, including:

  • Specific areas of milk pricing affected
  • Rationale behind the changes
  • Potential regional impacts on producers, processors, and consumers
  • Timeline and voting process
  • Correlation with potential Farm Bill adjustments
