Learn sheep breeding and buy quality stock

The National Sheep Improvement Program (NSIP), in collaboration with the American Lamb Board, is pleased to announce a valuable educational program for Iowa sheep producers.

"Sheep Sense: Management to Address Today's and Tomorrow's Challenges" will be held on Friday, July 26th, 2024, at the Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa.

This complimentary program offers a comprehensive overview of critical topics impacting modern sheep production.

Attendees will gain insights on improving feed efficiency through strategic genetic selection, effective parasite management strategies, and practical sheep operation budgeting techniques.

Additionally, the program will explore targeted grazing opportunities and the American Lamb Board's Climate Smart Grant program. Lunch is included for all participants, and the program runs from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Coinciding with the educational program, the NSIP Center of the Nation Sale will be held on Saturday, July 27th, at the same location.

This premier sale presents an exceptional opportunity to acquire nearly 197 head of high-quality breeding stock from breeds including Polypay, Suffolk, and Dorset.

These meticulously selected animals are chosen to enhance productivity and profitability within the U.S. sheep industry.

All sheep offered in the sale will be accompanied by their Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs), a valuable tool for informed breeding decisions. Educational materials on effectively utilizing EBVs will also be available for attendees.

Production Livestock Auctions manages the sale, which allows for convenient online bidding and nationwide transportation options for purchased animals.
