Organic Farmers to Host Field Days in August

The Midwest Organic & Sustainable Education Service is holding a pair of educational field days on two organic farms in western Wisconsin next month.

Cala Farm Origenes by Turtle Lake and Mary Dirty Face Farm near Menomonie will host the events.

Rodrigo Cala grows certified organic vegetables at Cala Farm Origenes and raises Katahdin sheep that graze systematically through his fields to provide fertility and weed control. He also raises broiler chickens in a perennial system. He will explain his systems approach to organic farming at the field day on August 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

And Rachel Henderson and Anton Ptak have an orchard and raise hogs, chickens, lamb, and cattle at Mary Dirty Face Farm. Their event will be held on August 21 from 9 a.m.

Both field days are free to attend, but pre-registration is requested.
