Pork Industry Scholarships Open for 2027 Applicants

Pork Industry Scholarships Open for 2027 Applicants

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Pork Association (WPA) has announced that applications are now available for several scholarships designed to support high school seniors and college students who are interested in agriculture and the pork industry. These scholarship opportunities aim to encourage education, leadership development, and career growth among the next generation of agricultural professionals.

Agriculture continues to play a major role in food production, rural communities, and the economy. As the industry continues to evolve, organizations such as the Wisconsin Pork Association are investing in students who want to build careers in farming, animal agriculture, agricultural business, research, and related fields.

The scholarship program includes opportunities funded by WPA, local pork producer groups, and national pork industry organizations. The scholarships are available to students at different stages of their educational journey and recognize both academic achievement and commitment to agriculture.

One of the available opportunities is the Fredrich Memorial Scholarship, which honors students pursuing careers in agriculture. Supported by the family of Clarence Fredrich through funding from the Southeast Wisconsin Pork Producers, the program offers three awards. Two students will receive scholarships valued at $1,000 each, while another student will receive a $750 award.

Students attending Wisconsin universities can also benefit from the Whitmore Memorial Scholarship. Established in memory of Rex Whitmore, a respected leader and communicator within the swine industry, this scholarship is open to eligible juniors and seniors attending UW-Madison, UW-River Falls, or UW-Platteville. The scholarship provides one award worth $1,500.

The Gunderson Memorial Scholarship recognizes the contributions of Buell and Bernice Gunderson to Wisconsin's pork industry. Through this program, the selection committee will award at least one scholarship worth up to $1,000 to a deserving student pursuing agricultural goals.

Another opportunity is the Southwest Wisconsin Pork Producers Scholarship, which supports students from Iowa, Grant, or Lafayette counties in Wisconsin. Applicants should have a strong interest in agriculture, with preference given to those interested in the swine industry. One scholarship worth $1,000 will be awarded through this program.

In addition to state-level opportunities, students can also apply for national scholarships connected to the pork industry. The USPCE Swine Legacy Scholarship, sponsored by the National Pork Industry Foundation and administered by the National Pork Producers Council, provides substantial financial support. Three scholarships valued at $5,000 each are awarded annually to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing careers in the swine industry.

Students interested in becoming future industry leaders may also consider the Lois Britt Memorial Scholarships. Sponsored by CME Group and the National Pork Industry Foundation, these awards are designed for students who plan to build careers within the pork industry. A total of 10 scholarships worth $2,500 each are available through this program.

The Neil Dierks Scholarship is another prestigious opportunity for students committed to the pork industry. Sponsored by the National Pork Industry Foundation and administered by the National Pork Producers Council, this scholarship awards $5,000 to one student each year. The program aims to support future leaders who will contribute to the growth and success of the industry.

Most of the scholarship application deadlines fall in December 2026, giving students time to review eligibility requirements and prepare their applications. Interested applicants are encouraged to gather academic records, references, and other required materials well before submission deadlines.

Scholarships like these help reduce the financial burden of higher education while encouraging students to pursue careers in agriculture. They also provide recognition for hardworking young people who are dedicated to serving the agricultural community.

The Wisconsin Pork Association says these scholarships are part of its broader mission to prepare young people for leadership roles, industry involvement, and long-term career success. By investing in students today, the organization hopes to strengthen the future of agriculture and the pork sector for years to come.

Students interested in learning more about eligibility requirements, application procedures, and deadlines can find additional information through the Wisconsin Pork Association. These scholarship programs offer valuable support for individuals who want to contribute to agriculture while developing their skills and education for future success.
