State Egg Production Off From Year-Ago Levels



Wisconsin egg production during May totaled 191 million eggs, down two from the same time last year, but up five percent from April's output.

According to the latest USDA Chickens and Eggs report, the average number of all layers on hand was 7.57 million--down one percent from both last year and last month. Eggs per 100 layers for May were 2,518, which was two percent lower than 2020, but six percent more than this past April.

Nationally, egg production totaled 9.38 billion, up three percent from last year. The average number of layers totaled 385 million, down slightly from 2020.
