Wisconsin egg production during August was 150 million eggs, down 13 percent from the same time a year ago, but up three percent for the month.
According to the USDA's latest Chickens and Eggs report, the average number of all layers on hand during August was 5.69 million--15 percent lower than in 2021, but three percent more than July 2022.
Nationally, egg production totaled 9.10 billion during August, down two percent from last year. Production included 7.78 billion table eggs, and 1.32 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.23 billion were broiler-type and 91.0 million were egg-type. The average number of layers totaled 371 million, off three percent from a year ago.
