Dry conditions continued across Wisconsin during the past month, causing some uneasiness among crop growers about spring conditions. According the USDA's monthly crop weather report, alfalfa and winter wheat fields are wintering well so far in most areas of Wisconsin. The only reported crop activities were manure hauling and planning for spring.
The report noted that producers are also concerned about high input prices, and possible supply chain difficulties with seed, chemicals, and equipment delivery.
Meanwhile, farmers are continuing to make plans for spring as they evaluate the costs for fertilizer and agricultural chemicals, as well as getting machinery ready for spring.
The agency releases a winter crop weather summary on the first Tuesday of the month in December, January, February and March.
