The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture has confirmed that a white-tailed buck at a Vernon County deer farm has tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease. The results were confirmed by the National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames, Iowa.
The one-acre facility has been placed under quarantine, meaning no live animals or whole carcasses are permitted to leave the property.
DATCP and USDA veterinarians and staff will conduct an epidemiological investigation.
Both state and federal agencies regulate deer farms for registration, recordkeeping, disease testing, movement, and permit requirements.
