Wisconsin bucks national drop in milk production

Wisconsin bucks national drop in milk production

By Blake Jackson

Wisconsin's dairy farmers kept the milk flowing in November, seeing a small uptick in production compared to the previous month. While still slightly below November 2022 levels, this modest increase offers a glimmer of hope in a national environment of declining milk output.

Here's a closer look at the numbers:

Wisconsin:

  • Milk production: 2.58 billion pounds (up from October, down slightly from November 2022)
  • Milk cows: 1.27 million head (flat compared to October, down slightly from November 2022)
  • Production per cow: 2,035 pounds (up slightly from November 2022)

24 Major Milk-Producing States:

  • Milk production: 17.3 billion pounds (down 0.5% from November 2022)
  • Production per cow: 1,948 pounds (down 3 pounds from November 2022)
  • Milk cows: 8.90 million head (down from November 2022 and October 2023)

National:

  • Milk production: 18.1 billion pounds (down 0.6% from November 2022)
  • Production per cow: 1,932 pounds (down 2 pounds from November 2022)

Milk cows: 9.36 million head (down from November 2022 and October 2023)
