Wisconsin Cheese Makers Announce Scholarship Winners

Five cheese makers will be earning money to help with their costs of continuing education from the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association. The group announced the winners of its 2021 scholarship program, in which the successful applicants will each get $3,000 awards.

This year's scholarship recipients include Isaac Johnson, Valley Queen Cheese Factory and undergraduate student studying civil engineering at South Dakota State University; Claire Sipple, former cheese operations intern at Agropur Inc. and food science major at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; John Koch, a high school senior matriculating at Purdue University to major in chemical engineering; Maxwell Martin, an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in computer engineering and certificate in Chinese at UW-Madison; and Melissa Young, a project manager at Kelley Supply, Inc. and graduate student pursuing a Master of Science in supply chain management at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

"WCMA members recognize education as a key factor in the strengthening and growth of the dairy industry," said WCMA Director John Umhoefer. "Our organization is honored to invest in the next generation of dairy leaders."

The WCMA student scholarship program is supported by the Championship Cheese Auction. That's where the gold medal cheeses from WCMA's Championship Cheese Contests are sold to provide income for a permanent, reserved scholarship fund.
