Wisconsin Farmers Union Hosts Local Food Systems Forum

By Blake Jackson

The MKE-Waukesha Chapter of the Wisconsin Farmers Union is hosting an event focused on the future of local food systems and funding.

Community members, farmers, and food access advocates are invited to Gwenyn Hill Farm in Waukesha on Sunday, June 22 for “Wholesaling & Food Access What’s Next for Local Foods Funding/LFPA?” This event will explore the impact of the Local Food Purchasing Assistance (LFPA) program and examine efforts to maintain food system resilience amid recent funding cuts.

Event Information:

  • Location: Gwenyn Hill Farm, N130W294 Bryn Drive, Waukesha, WI
  • Date & Time: Sunday, June 22, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM (doors open at 3:30 PM)

Attendees will tour Gwenyn Hill Farm’s vegetable operations and learn about its sustainable practices. The program includes firsthand accounts from farmers who benefited from the LFPA program and how they are responding to its termination.

Participants will also hear about the Wisconsin Farmers Union’s ongoing advocacy to strengthen local food systems and support equitable food access. The evening will close with refreshments and a social hour featuring locally sourced food and beverages.

"Local food systems are essential to healthy communities and thriving family farms; they keep dollars in our local economies and ensure fresh, healthy food reaches those who need it most,” said Danielle Endvick, Wisconsin Farmers Union Executive Director.

“LFPA made a real difference losing that funding hurts both producers and communities. We need to keep building systems that value farmers and ensure everyone has access to good food."

The event is free and open to all. To help with planning, please register at www.wisconsinfarmersunion.com/events or contact Elizabeth Lyon at elyontkd@gmail.com or 262-501-3010.
