Wisconsin Holstein Youth to be Honored at Nationals in June

Wisconsin will have three semi-finalists competing in the Distinguished Junior Member contest at this year's National Holstein Convention, slated for June 21-24 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Open to any National Junior member ages 17-21, the DJM award is the highest honor that can be given to a Holstein Junior member. Only 12 members in the nation are eligible to compete in the semi-final round.

Wisconsin students in the competition include Nicole Broege, Janesville; Josh Gerbitz, Milton; and Benjamin Kronberg, Milton.

Each of the semi-finalists completed an entry book, detailing their Junior Holstein project work, involvement with their cattle, program participation, and school and community activities.

The Distinguished Junior Member semi-finalists all have won the similar contest at their state level.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin will also have four members competing in the Young Distinguished Junior Member competition, which is for students between the ages of 9-16. They include Ashley Brandel, Lake Mills; Austin Meyer, Chilton; Garrett Ulness, Valders; and Ava Endres, Waunakee.

And the Wisconsin Holstein Association has announced that Polk County Senior Dairy Bowl Team will represent Wisconsin during the national convention after winning the state championships last weekend in Marshfield. A team from Manitowoc/Calumet County was the runner-up, while Rock County placed third and Richland County was fourth.
